12.Feb.2010 An Education
I remember the first time I saw the trailer for An Education; being the unabashed Anglophile that I am I knew right away I had to see. However there was something stopping me… the only theaters I could find showing the film were in Manhattan. As much as I wanted to see it I wasn’t sure driving the hour into the city, paying the tolls, finding parking and paying the inflated movie prices in New York City were worth it. I now know that this movie would have been worth all of that.
Thankfully this amazing film received some very well deserved Oscar nominations (including Best Picture and Best Actress). This extra attention brought the film to a theater much closer to home, affording me the opportunity to see it without having to deal with any bridge and tunnel traffic.
I can honestly tell you this was one of the best film’s I have ever seen. It has already etched itself onto my heart and has already inspired an abundance of self reflection.
Writing reviews of things has never been my strong suit; I just really enjoyed this film. I thought it was beautiful without being pretentious. Funny, clever and fresh. It was also beautifully acted; not once did I look at “Jenny” and think of “Sally Sparrow”. Each one of the actors played their part so superbly I was able to completely lose myself in the story… and I loved every moment of it.
Miss Stubbs: Just paperbacks and postcards, Jenny.
Jenny: That’s all that matters.
